Family
Her younger brother Sami is a furniture designer. Her mother, Diana Jimenez Medina, is an opera singer and talent scout. Her father, Sami Hayek Dominguez, is an oil company executive and owner of an industrial equipment company, who once ran for mayor of Coatzacoalcos. Her father is a Mexican of Lebanese origin, and his family is from the city of Baabdat in Lebanon, a city that her father Salma visited in 2015 to promote her film Khalil Gibran The Prophet. Her mother is Mexican of Hispanic descent.

She began her career in Mexico starring in Telenovela Teresa and starring in El Callejon de Los Milagros (Miracle Alley) which was nominated for an Ariel Award.

At the age of 23, Salma Hayek got the title role in Teresa (1989), a successful Mexican telenovela that made her a star in Mexico. On March 9, 2007, Hayek confirmed her engagement to French billionaire and Kering CEO, Francois-Henri Pinault, as well as her pregnancy. She gave birth to daughter Valentina Paloma Pinault in September 2007 at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, California. They married on Valentine’s Day 2009 in Paris. On April 25, 2009, they held a second concert in Venice. According to reports, Pinault is the father of Augustin James, son of supermodel Linda Evangelista, who was born in October 2006.
