Paul Anthony McDermott (4 February 1972 – 10 December 2019) was an Irish lawyer and tutorial. He was a distinguished jail barrister who often prosecuted cases inside the Irish superior courts. He was additionally referred to as a lecturer in regulation at University College Dublin and for frequent commentary on licensed points inside the Irish media. McDermott was married to Annick and had two sons. He died on 10 December 2019 after an illness. He obtained consideration for his analysis and suggestions on the referendum to determine the Court of Appeal and the referendum to repeal the Eighth Amendment. In 2017, a murder trial on the Central Criminal Court was collapsed by the select after the jury heard suggestions McDermott made describing the defence of provocation in an unrelated dialogue on Prime Time.
