Family
Bill Cosby is one of four sons of Anna Pearl, a maid, and who served in the Chaos Service in the US Navy. During most of Cosby’s early childhood, his father was away from the US armed forces, and he spent several years serving in the theater of war in World War II.
Education
After attending Temple University in the 1960s, he earned his bachelor’s degree there in 1971. In 1973, he received his master’s degree from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, and in 1976, he received his doctorate in education from UMass too. His thesis discussed the use of Fat Albert and the Cosby Children as an educational tool in elementary schools.
Career
He got his start in the stand-up comedy in I’m Hungry in San Francisco and was followed by his landing a starring role on the 1960s TV show I Spy. He was also a regular on the children’s television series The Electric Company for the first two seasons of the show.
